Laurel Music Studio is Closing.
Closing August 30, 2017. Please check back to learn where our instructors will be teaching after that!
In 2005, I moved up to the Twin Cities and started teaching out of my home on Ottawa Avenue. When my husband and I decided to move down to Apple Valley (and later, Stillwater), I couldn't stand the thought of losing those students, who had become so dear to me. I arranged to open a business location in the are a, and so Laurel Music Studio came into being. What an education it has been for ME, an educator; what a wonderful opportunity to meet all of you, and so many others - both instructors and students. I love this community, this neighborhood, and have been so grateful to be a part of it.
But, the time has come for me to move on. Other responsibilities and opportunities are beckoning to me, and as I try to encourage my students to grow in their musical ability and understanding, it is time for me to grow in the career part of my life. I am applying for a graduate program at the University of Minnesota, in Early Childhood Education, which upon completion, would allow me to teach Pre-K through 3rd grade in the state elementary schools. I am extremely excited to embark upon this venture, and use the enthusiasm I've developed for teaching in a slightly different way. I am anticipating that the program will require a bigger part of my time and energy than I would currently be able to give it, given my responsibilities and teaching hours at the Studio during the school year.
So it is with many, many mixed feelings that I must report to you that on August 30, 2017* Laurel Music Studio will be closing. Here are some important items of note:
- What will happen to the other instructors?
- (Kirstin's Students) I want to somehow continue lessons - who do you recommend?
- Saying Goodbye:
Most will continue teaching in some other venue. PLEASE speak to your instructor about continuing lessons with them after LMS closes its doors!
Eva Coon, violin: 612-860-4562
Tom Cross, piano, brass, and wind: 651-260-4658
Rick Dimmel, guitars, ukelele, mandolin, beginning piano, harmonica, etc: 612-386-6499
Mark Henjum, guitars and beg. piano: 612-845-7524
Matt Olson, piano and voice: 651-206-8935
*Regarding August 30: it is possible for some of the non-piano students to continue lessons with their instructor into September. The pianos will not be available in September, however. Your instructor will talk to you about options.
For my piano students, I of course would be happy to recommend talking to one of the other instructors about continuing lessons with them. I also will have several other music teachers I can recommend to you. I will post these soon.
I haven't gotten to see a lot of you over the summer and so I am hoping to create an opportunity for me to say goodbye to all of you! I am thinking of possibly doing a goodbye picnic or open house on a weekday in September. Stay tuned.
Thank you all, for your patronage, the laughter and joy, the hard work, and the honor of knowing each of you. I hope that our paths will cross again.
